Varun Gandhi has not been nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 from the Pilibhit seat in Uttar Pradesh. He is the current member of parliament for this Lok Sabha seat.
Rather than Gandhi, the BJP fielded Uttar Pradesh minister Jitin Prasada from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat. Maneka Gandhi, the mother of Varun Gandhi, who is now an MP from Sultanpur, will vie for the seat.
For more over twenty years, Varun Gandhi or his mother Maneka Gandhi have represented the Pilibhit seat.
Initially, as a BJP candidate, Varun Gandhi had won the Pilibhit seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections. Maneka Gandhi took over as his successor in 2014. In the 2019 polls, he was elected once more.
One of the most well-known constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Pilibhit, is scheduled to hold its first round of elections on April 19. On Wednesday, the nomination process got underway.
Is Varun Gandhi planning to run as an Independent?
It was discussed before the BJP unveiled its fifth list if Varun Gandhi would run as an independent in the event that he was denied a ticket to represent the Pilibhit constituency.
According to several rumors, he might run for the Lok Sabha as an independent or on behalf of the Samajwadi Party (SP).
On March 20, nevertheless, the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP declared Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar the party's nominee from Pilibhit.
Four sets of nomination papers for Varun Gandhi's Uttar Pradesh seat have been brought in, according to a report earlier this month from the news agency PTI. According to MR Malik, the MP's spokesperson, he bought four sets of nomination papers, two in Hindi and the same number in English, per Gandhi's instructions. Notably, Varun Gandhi has voiced his opposition to the BJP on a number of fronts, such as the Agnipath project, jobs, and health. According to news agency PTI, he recently complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi while sharing a dais with the BJP officials.
